Hey there!

I’m Robin Elvig

Learning and continuous improvement are my passions. Maybe this is why I love reading historical fiction and nonfiction books. Or why I love traveling and engaging with all types of people. Not sure it has anything to do with my love of coffee or a nice red wine…

I love the challenge of breaking down complex content or ideas into something understandable.
(I guess I’m the opposite of a Rube Goldberg machine.)

Having been in the writing and editing world for over twenty-five years, I continue to view editing and ghostwriting as compelling puzzles. Both require strategy, creative thinking, and problem-solving. I get to step into someone else’s shoes and appreciate the world from their perspective.

Though my bachelor’s degree is in nursing, I’ve spent most of my career in an office—writing and editing patient education materials for a software company. In the few years I worked in the hospital, I realized the strong need for clear, concise medical information for patients.

Writing for patients eventually led me to developmental editing of books, then on to ghostwriting. My medical writing shared some similarities with the ghostwriting process: I gathered data and information about a specific health issue, considered my patient audience, fleshed out the most essential details, and created an instruction that was engaging and easy to read. And my name was never on the end product.

Ghostwriting is different than writing. It entails specific techniques and processes. It may come as a surprise that I don’t like to write from scratch. I have no desire to author my own book. My joy comes from helping people like you turn their ideas and stories into a marketable, hold-in-your-hands book!

About my work

I hold a certificate from the intense 13-month Ghostwriters Professional Development Program from California State University, Long Beach. My strengths include:

  • Determining a manuscript’s market position before ghostwriting, allowing me to direct my writing to the appropriate audience
  • Highlighting a manuscript’s strengths and selling points
  • Uncovering and ameliorating any content disruptions in a manuscript
  • Maintaining my client’s voice, style, intent, and perspective throughout all rewrites and edits
  • Musically line editing to maximize punch, drive, and reading enjoyment
  • Guiding my clients through today’s publishing maze to determine the best options for their books

I live in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and have worked with authors from across the United States. I connect with clients through video meetings, e-mail, phone calls, and occasional travel. Though the opportunity hasn’t arrived yet, I’d be delighted to work with someone internationally as well.
